Medication and Supplements dosage conversions

Most of the items available through the Finch Niche are produced and packaged in the UK and Australia. Both places use the metric system, which can lead to confusion to consumers in the USA. I also know that many of you use these products on only a small number of birds while others are treating large flocks. Hopefully the conversions and dosages below will help make working with these products a little easier.

Lets start with the basics.

PowdersLiquids

Amoxitex
Is a Broad Spectrum Antibiotic for treatment of Non-Chlamydial Infections. Should be mixed fresh daily.
A measuring spoon should be included with this product.

Dosage in Water:
2 tsp per quart
2 tsp per 4 cups
1 tsp per 2 cups

Crop dose for a finch: Most finches weigh around 15 grams. Mix 1tsp in 3tsp of water. Give only 0.2ml or 0.2CC to your average finch daily.

Calcium Plus
Keep your breeding females as healthy as possible with this product. It can also be used as an emergency treatment for egg binding if necessary. Do not give daily

Dosage in Water:
4 tsp per 4 cups
2 tsp per 2 cups
1 tsp per 1 cup

Crop dosage is only necessary if you are treating severe calcium deficiency or egg binding. When crop dosing is necessary mix the ratios the same and fill your 1CC syringe with 0.4CC of the solution. Give once a day for no more than 5 days in a row. Or give 1 drop (no more) or undiluted Calciboost to the finch in the beak.

Charcoal
Sweetens the gut and aids digestion. Dietary addition. Give as needed. I usually feed 1 tsp per 8 birds once a week.

Hearty Bird
Provides the Key Vitamins and Minerals Required for Excellent Health. A scoop is provided with this product. 1 scoop = 1 tsp. This product works best when added to water.

Dosage in Water:
1 tsp per 5 Quarts
1/2 tsp per 10 cups
1/4 tsp per 5 cup

Feather Fast
Feather restorer. Also helps bring finches and canaries out of a molt if they become stuck. Can also be used as the molt starts to help produce stunning new plumage throughout the molt.

Small single pair finches: 1 pinch on food daily
Collections of finches (10 pairs): ½ tsp on food daily
Collections of finches (20+ pairs): 1 tsp on food daily

Thrive
Natural immune system boosting supplements to help fight illness.

Dosage on food: 1/4 tsp per 1 cup fruits and veggies or eggfood

Crop Dose: Mix 1 tsp with water until it forms a paste. Give 1CC daily to finch.

Food: Approx 1g per 1kg of body weight.
1 pinch for 20 small finches, 7 canaries, 2 budgies, or 2 cockatiels.
2 pinches for 1 Amazon or African Grey.
4 pinches for macaws

I always use moist foods, if you sprinkle the supplement on dry seeds it will just fall off.

Probiotics (Avi-Culture)
Re-establish the natural gut flora after infections, diarrhea, stress and the use of antibiotics. This product comes with a measuring scoop. 1 scoop = 1 gram

Mix with food:
Avi-Culturetm may be added to or sprinkled on pellets, moist foods, seed, fruit, greens, vegetables and even to the water (un-chlorinated) used to moisten nestling or hand-rearing formulas (use measures for making water solution shown below to moisten), without fear of overdose as follows:

Dose for small aviary of finches: ½ gram Large aviary of finches: 1 tsp per 100 birds
Dose for small aviary of medium birds: 1 grams Large aviary of medium birds: 2 tsp per 100 birds
Dose for small aviary of large birds: 2 grams Large aviary of large birds: 3 tsp per 100 birds

Mix with water:
For use in drinking water add 1 gram per 4 cups of drinking water or 4 grams per gallon of drinking water, Then let sit for an hour prior to administering to birds. Change water daily. Prepared solution is good for one week when kept refrigerated.

Ronex

Sick birds may be given Energize for a full week, then stop. This product can be mixed with Calcium Plus and Probiotics.
