Links are to your left. Below are also links and article descriptions. These articles have all been written by me and may NOT be posted on any other website or in any publication or newsletter without written permission from me.
Information about specific species of finches can be found in my Species Showcase section.

A Sick Finch - A comprehensive article which covers the symptoms and signs of many finch illnesses. Use this article to identify your finches ailment, then the article will link you to a more detailed description on any given ailment and it's treatment. This article will continue to grow over time.

Air Sac Mites - The leading killer of Gouldian Finches is Air Sac Mites. However, these little bugs can be found in most any species of bird. Learn what the symptoms are and how to treat it.

Bacterial Infection - Illness come in many variety. Some of the most frustrating can be bacteria caused. Here I have explained what a bacterial infection would look like and how to treat it.

Caution: Females - Buying a female finch knowing that it is only days from laying eggs is very dangerous. The female could become egg bound and die.

Culling - This is not an easy topic for many people. It's never easy to do, but sometimes finches (or any pet) need to be put down. This is how I do it.

Egg Binding - The cause of death of so many young and older hens alike in the bird world. Here I cover what usually causes it, how to spot it, how to treat it, and how to prevent it. Female finches don't need to die of egg binding. You can prevent it.

Failure To Thrive - If your finches are eating all the time and are loosing weight. If your chicks are dying in the nest or shortly after fledging. You may want to read this.

Probitoics (healthy Gut) - Probiotics are the good bacteria. A good probiotic supplement will contain little more than what is necessary. Probiotics are a live bacterial supplement usually added to your finch's soft or moist foods. They can be used to treat some gastro intestinal problems but they are most effective when used as a preventative supplement. They should always follow any antibiotic treatment as well.
Feather Mites/Lice - These little bugs don't usually kill your birds but they can if the infestation gets to large. Over all these pests just create an uncomfortable life for your finches. Learn how to get rid of them.

Hospital Cage - You asked for it, so I wrote it. This article covers the basics of what a hospital cage is, how and why it's used, as well as information you'll need to make or buy your own.

Parasitical Worms - Worms can devastate a finch population and ruin a complete breeding season. If you feed live foods or keep your aviary outdoors you should read this.

Protozoal Infection - A little less common but quite deadly. Protozoa, like the worms, can kill many finches and their young.

Scaly Face - This is also a mite related problem which can lead to death. The treatment for these mites is a little different than the treatment for other external mites. Learn more here.

Twirling - Most common in gouldians, it can effect other species as well. The exact cause is unknown but some treatments are being tested.

Wet Vent - A common ailment which may be as easy to fix as a dietary adjustment, or it may requite antibiotics.
